The Rite of the Passing of St. Francis was held at the outdoor altar of St. James Church in Medjugorje on October 3, 2026. It was presided over by Medjugorje parish priest Friar Zvonimir Pavičić.
The rite followed the evening Mass, which was also celebrated by Friar Zvonimir Pavičić. Friars, nuns, members of the Franciscan Youth and Third Order, as well as numerous parishioners and pilgrims, took part.
In his homily, Friar Zvonimir Pavičić said that St. Francis lived with humility, love and surrender. He also called on the faithful to follow Christ with undivided hearts. In the homily, he linked the rite with the commemoration of Francis’s passing in Assisi 800 years ago.
